Nov 3 Heard that Austria had signed an Armistice with General Diaz to cease hostililties Nov 4, 1918. Also learned that Kaiser had abdicated. Went to church in chapel in Verdun Citadel.

Nov 7 The envoy was supposed to cross the lines at 15:00
Nov 8 Papers stated that German envoy had been rec’d by Marshall Foch and terms of peace given them.

Nov 10 Was notified at 16:00 that Kaiser had abdicated.
Nov 11 Courier came in at 2:15 and advised us that we were to make a drive at 9:30. Wireless received at 4:30 from Hq Marshall Fock that all hostilities would cease on the entire front at 11 oclock French time this day, no fraternizing with the enemy and no crossing the lines until further orders. Armistice was signed at 5 AM Nov 11, 1918. Hostilities to cease 6 hours later.

Nov 13 [blank] Was advised at 15:00 that would move next day.
Nov 14 Packed up at 10:45 8 trucks instead of (9) reported at 13:15. Was charged with getting them loaded and started at 14:00. Started them at 14:30. Awaited the return of 8 trucks. None showed up. Sat up all night watching for them. Made my own supper with some Lieuts (?). All of [??] slept.
Nov 15 At 6:00 went to casual mess to arrange for breakfast for men. Had a bite at 7:30. Four new trucks arrived at 10:00. Loaded them and started with them for Pierrefitte. Passed three souilly. Arrived at P at 13:30. Found the rest of trucks had not unloaded. At 14:20 all trucks started to Benoite Vaux. Ar. At 15:00. Unloaded and set up offives in cold barracks. NCO mess set up on hill in shanty. 35 men to be trans to 3rd Army reported at 19:00 and stayed until 23:30. To bed at 24:00.

Nov 18 Advised at 15:00 that would pack up and load at night and would move in morning. Snowed for first time at 19:00. Waited for trucks all night. Did not show up until 6:00 in the morning.
Nov 19 Trucks arrived at 06:00. Loaded trucks and started at 9:35 for Montigny le Roi. Passed thru Bal-le-duc. Passed through Neufchateau at 18:00. Arrived at Montigny at 23:00. Found offices and unloaded. Snyder, Harrihy, and Pots got left at Neufchateau. Retired at 1 oclock next morning
Nov 20 Arose at 7:00. Set up office at #67 on Avenue Neufchateau. Messwas set up at #244. Obtained a private room thru Town Major at #198.

Nov 28 Had a big Thanksgiving dinner at 18:15 o’clock. Had 10 chickens (baked and stuffed0 and other things mentioned on attached menu. 1 barrel of beer, wines, & cognac. Broke up at 11:40.

Dec 24 Was advised that I would be in charge of 70 men Xmas morning to await President Wilson
Dec 25 Arose at 8:00. Assembled men in front of Adjutant’s Office on Rue Meufchateau at 11:15. President and party arrived at 12:20. Whole party passed slowly by us. He had dinner with Gen S and officers of Division at French Hospital. He departed at 2:15 without having made a speech. Non-coms had a fine supper that commenced at 18:00 and broke up at 1:00 next morning. Had fellows from 26th Div[ision} [???] Show music 1-violin 3-banjoes [sic] 1-ukalalee 3 Kingsbury fellows from Keene NH.
