Dear Sirs We beg to hand you annexed du= =plicate of our letter of the 2nd inst[ant] [2 September] – Our cotton

market has been very animated during the ^ week.

Dear Sirs At the request of the brother of your [p[art]nor?], Mr. Matthew F[ontaine] Maury we have paid to him the sum of £25, [double underscore] - & have passed the amount to the debit of our account, which we trust will meet with your approval. –

Mr. Matthew Maury shewed us a letter from his brother, in which the latter stated that he would give the former an order upon us, should he re= =quire any money; and we now beg to enclose Mr. Matthew Maury’s receipt (duplicate) and a letter from him to your Mr. James Maury in explanation of the matter.

There has been a moderate enquiry for Cotton during the week, & the quotations of Friday’s circular are maintained. Middling Orleans being worth 23 3/4d p[er] lb[pound].
