Friday 20th
Wind NE A dreadful Snow storm. Snow
more than a foot deep. Our poor soldiers must
suffer terribly.
Saturday 21
Wind N & NW still snowing. It snowed all last
night and till 10 o,clock today, fine rain the
bal of the day. A Yankee Steamer up the
River till 10 o,clk at night. Got a little wood.
Had to send half allowance of Corn to Mill
Sunday 22
Wind W cloudy till 10 clk then clear. Snow melts
very fast, the whole surface of the eath is a perfect
slush of snow & water. We staid at home.
Lost Six fine large Shoats that would weigh 60 lbs each
Monday 23
Wind E clear. Making Hog shelter in woods Got
Wood. A little girl of my Brothers (Betty) who lived
here went to the Yankees at Night taking with her a
good many of my wife’s & Daughter’s clothes, Curtains, Bed Cloths.
Tuesday 24
Wind E Cloudy & clear alternately. Mauling Rails & cutting
tops of trees into wood. Women at work in Garden
I went to Mr Bryans to Old Johns house to look for Betty
heard nothing of her. I am quite sick with a cold
