Thursday 1st

Wind NW Clear. Hauling Corn stalks & shucks to Farm Pen
and ricking them. Racking woods litter and hauling it to
Farm Pen. Shelled Corn to send to Mill.

Friday 2

Wind W in m.g. E in Evg. Clear & beautiful weather.
Hauling stalks to Farm Pen & Ricking them. Cutting
down Corn stalks. Maria & the children went to
Wilsons Creek and carried Hally Curtis home.

Saturday 3

Wind SW Clear. Cutting down stalks & hauling them to Pen
Getting Wood. I started to go to the Court house but
heard the Yankees were out in force so had to return.

Sunday 4

Wind SW cloudy, rained a little at night. I went to
Wilsons Creek in Evg. The Yankee Cavalry about 200 returned
to Gloster Point in Evg. They went up York River, landed at Capahosic
thence to Hickory Fork. They stole Dr Cary’s Bacon and all the
Horses and Poultry they could find. Lewis Hall a carpenter
who has done a good deal of work for me and who is a deserter from
our Army was with them as their guide. The Villian

Monday 5

Wind S mg E in Evg. Clear. Cutting down & hauling stalks. Putting chimney
to Marthas house. I went to CH. Hired out Manuel [too Kemp?] for $125. Got
EB [fleary?] to hire out Warners Negroes. Genl Bragg has gained a great Victory
over Rosencrans near Murfreesboro Tennessee.
