Sunday 28th

Wind NW Clear. I went to Belle Farm.
West reports that the Bay was white to day with sails
of the Vessels going down towards Hampton Roads.
Tis reported by persons living on York River that the
Yankees are leaving York & Gloster point. God grant it

Monday 29

Wind W & SW Clear & beautiful. I went to Boswell Seawills’
and to T B Taliafinos to get him to carry a letter to Richmond.
Hired Lucy to Mrs Cols Page.

Tuesday 30

Wind W Cloudy & rained all the Evening.
A Yankee steamer was before the door all day .
They went up the River in their Barges and cut up Old Sparrow’s
Canoe and took a good many oysters. I went over the River in Evg.
A large number of Troops have gone up the Bay from York & GPt.

Wednesday 31

Wind N Cloudy & cold. I went to the Ct house.
Nothing very important from the Armies. In Tennessee a Battle
was expected to occur Near Nashville. Seaward resigned his
seat in the Cabinet but was subsequently induced to resume it.
Burnside resigned but his resignation was not accepted & he is still
in command of the “Army of the Potomac” H Curtis & Mr Page
dined here. Hally stayed.
