December 7th

Wind NW Clear & very cold. Ice formed an inch
Thick last night & freezing all day.
Maria & the children rode to Sister Ann in M.g.
I went to Mr Sinclair in mg. the poor old Gentleman is very low.
I heard the Burnside attempted to cross the Rappahannock River
at Port Royal last Thursday but was foiled by Lee.

Monday 8

Wind NW Early m.g. SW afterwards. Shucked & put away corn
Got Wood. A Mr Read a Hampton Refugee here.

Tuesday 9

Wind SW Clear. Shucked & put away Corn. Cut out
and salted up the Negroes hogs. A Gun Boat came in
the River & sent two Barges up the left prong. I dont know what
they did. They went away in Ev.g. Capt Hopkins came
from Poquosin River & bought me a Bushel Salt for which he
charged $15 & some Tea & Sugar & 3 Bushels Salt for Mr. Sinclair.
Capt Davis & three other Poquosin men staid here at night.
Two Yankee Deserters from Old Point got here after dark and
staid all night. Sent Carter to Mrs. Carney’s after cloth

Wednesday 10

Wind SW Clear Shucking & putting away Corn. Got Wood.
Capt Hopkins & Mr Read started for York County about 10 O.clk
at night, with Flour he got of Mr Sinclair. Sister Ann & myself
Carter returned in Ev.g.
