Wind SE Clear. We staid at home till Evg, when
Maria & I rode to Sister Ann; Sady Washington is very
sick there.
Monday 29
Wind SW Clear. Finished stacking Blade fodder.
Cut Tops in Ev.g. A Mrs Tunnell and her son,
refugees from Elizabeth City County got here in a Boat
this morning on their way to Richmond. I sent them
up to the Ct house & on to Worthy Montague’s
[Marginalia}

I went to Ct house (Mail day) Nothing new from our Armies.
or from Fielding Taylor.
Lincoln has issued a Proclamation manumitting all Slaves
after 1st January 1863. They had done that practically all
along to all those who would go to them, so I dont see
that the Proclamation makes much difference. Except among
his own People, among whom I hope it will raise dissensions & strife
Sady Washington died very suddenly & unexpectedly to every one
this evening at Sister Ann’s. She had a relapse after she
had recovered from diptheria but she was not thought ill till
to,day.
