Head Qrs. 2nd Brig. A.No.Va. near Raleigh Ch. October 14th 62 Capt. W.B. Myers, A.A.Genl. Capt., the Comdg Genl's note of this morning con- taining an [unmerciful?] reproach of me for having "abandoned" my sick at Montgomery's Ferry was fully answered last night. It is not true that I abandoned my sick at that or any other place. They were in charge of the Med [Quarters?] and provided for as explained in my note. As to the sick at Fayette, they were left by the Med. Director upon a consultation with the surgeons of the Regt, because in their opinion they could not be brought in the wag- ons without danger to their lives, four having already died on the way. I will move my camp to Piney this morn- ing and send back the 25 wagons and transportation for the sick as ordered by the Comd'g Genl. I would respectfully sug- gest however, that we have a very limited supply of forage, barely enough to carry us through, and this detention will exhaust all that [we have?]. I have the honor to be sir, very respectfully [illegible] John Williams Brig Genl Comdg
