Know all men by these presents that we Isaac Bales as principal and Felix S. Odell as surety, both of the county of Nicholas and State of Virginia are [fee?] held and firmly bound unto the United States of America in the sum of One thousand Dollars for the payment of which we hereby by these presents bind ourselves our heirs executors and administr rators sealed with our seals and dated this 2nd day of April A. D. 1862.

      The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas the above

bound Isaac Bales has been and is suspected of disloyalty & treason against the United States now if the said Isaac Bales shall not take arms against the U. States nor give aid and comfort to the enemies there of but shall on the contrary demean himself as a loyal law abiding citizen of the United States for the term of twenty Years from the time here of then these presents shall be void otherwise remain in full force & effect.
