Camp near Middletown Va

              November 6th 1864

Dear Father

           I take the present

pooertunity to write a few lines to let you know that I am well at present hoping these few lines may find you all in the same. I will sent you my old discharge again and also my commission and I want you to take care of it till I come home and I let you know that we look every moment for an attack from the rebles, but we are ready to receive them and we will give them the best we got if they come and I think I bust bring my letter to a close for this time and hoping to here from you soon. I just received them Receit and ticets and I am gone to make good use of them if the rebs dunt keep us from voting all at present
