Winder Hospital Division 2ond ward 48 July 23 1863 Dear wife I seat myself this evening to wright you a few lines this leaves me not well I am so I hardly can get up when I am down with my back hips my shoulders and my breast is like they was wnter before last. I am in the same fix that I was then. I dont know when I will be able to go to my Regt. Mary dont be uneasy about me it is my old complaint [rumatism?]. I hope this will find you and the children well and all of our relation. I hope this will find Habe and sally at our house with you and [Mon?]. Mary I could get transfered to Danville this morning but I want to go to Lynchburg as liberty most every day there is transfers to some place or other. the Doctor hasgive me a big [blastr?] bottle nere half ful of linament to rub my back and hips. Mary I want you to make me cloth hat. make it double and quilt it make it the right size as nere as you can or get pur to take some wool to Wynn and get him to make me one. you can get the size by my straw hat. Mary I understand that Gen Lee has gon back to Pensylvany. I hope the war wont last much longer. O that we could have peace so we that have wives could come home and [injoy?] our selves once more. I never knew what trouble was before. I hope God will bless us with peace before long. if we dont have peace before long women and children will have to suffer. I am a [ferd?] Mary I baught some four in Mayorland for 5 cts per pound paid in confederate money an I and a other man baught it Mary I have understood that our wounded men was left all that could not walk in Pensylvany.

I dont know how they will far but I hope they will take good care of them. they say the first of next week we can draw our money. I intend to try to draw my money I think as I am in a Misissippay hospital that that they will transfer me before long. I had as soon have a transfer to Liberty as a furlow. Mary I understand that [?] is gaining ground on us on mos every side. I have understood that texes has joined [Ferance?] and I understand that the yankeys has cut off all the states beyound the Misissippa river. I dont know any thing about it. Mary they say that a mans wife never comes here after her husband that goes home without him. I want to come home and if you come after me I may be gon some where else. I dont know what to wright about [sure?] comeing I know you would [...]was to [...] you would have to take the name of the [hospital?] [...] and ward to find me but I hope i will get a transfer before long. If I dont get well Mary if you wright to me give me the news how your garden patch of corn is [and?] hogs. I dont know whether I will get your letter or not. dont put any secrets in it. I want to know who is with you. wright soon if you wright at all. Mary I must say something about the blesednes we have received. I am thankful to God that I am yet alive am able, and willing to ask a blessing. Ipicked up a testament in P [or?] Ma. I dont know where I read it and pray night and morning and in the day very often. Mary try to give God your heart O that the war would end and i could come home and unite with you in prayer to God but if we pray he [will?] here us any where. kiss the boys for me. tell them I will come home as soon as I can. must [?] I remain your true and affectionate Husband until death.
