Washington City December the 9th 1861 My Dear farther I take this present opertunity to wright a few lines to you to let you no that we are all well at present time and I hope these few lines may find you in joying the same and further I let you no that we ware out [cauting?] the other day about fifteen miles to wards the revels and we chased them and they runs and tore there canons all to peases and we

catched ten of them and we took them along to our camp and further I let you no that we are going out to maraid again and ten thousand more then ware out the other time and in all will be twenty thousand and we exspect a batle fore shure if they dont run a gain and further I let you no that we are bilding our winter huts and I like it very well yet so fare and I am well to fare I weigh twenty five pounds
