                                           Friday 1861

Dear Elle

I hasten to write a few lines in answer

to your Letter - by last mail, we are truely glad to hear of your rejoicing over Mr Scott. You will have cause I hope to bless our Countrys troubles, even if pleases God to sepperate you for some time or for life the Soul I know from experience is worth more than [tonngs?] can tell and without Christ and God is indeed a waste and desolation. I think the servants must be very much [excited?] with you, all seem about the same here. Mama says she will feel hurt if you should go any where to stay but here. Papa gives all a welcome if the [Boys?] have to leave and of Course if Mr. Scott goes he will expect you. I am much obliged to you for your offer - to go to Baltimore with me, but we cannot go now and I trust God will deliver me without having to go. Dr. Perkins has been to see me twice. I hardly know how I am my side is not so painful but at times I feel like I should loose my health. Oh that I could feel Gods holy spirit in my heart and trust my Saviors holy with my all I think I should be well. Pray for me. Willis Dabney is here & he expects to leave this this evening. [Jim?] and Family were here this morning. They are better. I answered your letter to mama but directed it to White Chimneys. Willis says write to her she wrote last she sends her love. Oh for an understanding heart, to know right from wrong and to feel right, humble and contrite, trusting in the merits of Jesus for Salvation. Mary Jane and the Baby are getting on very well. Papa and Mama are tolerable. Mrs. Haws and Mrs. Novil the children and Alice dined with us Wednesday. I have no news to write except Miss Ellen Robinson is to be married to Mr. Warren at Sharon next Thursday. Miss Mary Burruss of Richmond and Mr. Winston Fontaine were to be married yesterday. I think I should defer such thing at this time

                    Yours with Love to all
                             M R B

I got Willis to send Gays letter to mama for her, they must write again if Grand Mama wrote herself she would answer it I know. Kiss the [Birds?] for all
