Quitman Sept. 6 1862.

Col. Jon. Tyler

Tupelo.

Dear Sir;

Yours of the 4th inst enclosing a letter to Col Raco was rec'd to day & I have just directed it to Coopers Mill Hinds Co. Miss as he told me he was going to that place.

Say to Gen Price that as soon as I can get the last lot of shoes that will reach his command I shall at once repair to his Head Qrs. I have been exerting myself for the last 8 week, riding thro heat & dust to contract for land, procure shoes for his army, and I am happy to say that I have received contracts for nearly five thousand pairs. I have just sent hurrying messages to all the Contractors, so that his army might get all they possibly could before moving out of reach, and I shall be moving all the time to receive & send the [forward?] - a work so advanced that no one else could now take my place. In this I am most effectually serving the army. As soon however as I possibly can I shall hasten to his side and share the perils of the field. With [illegible] of my kindest regards for yourself. I remain

Yours truly

Tho's C. Johnson
