        Camp near Summerville Sept 26 1862


Uncle Abram

            Dear
                 Sir  I take the

present moment to write you a Short letter to inform you of an accident that occured in our Company on yesterday Jerry was thrown from a horse and got his leg broken. The break is about halfway between the knee and the ankle of his left leg, a doctor was immediately procured and his leg Set. The doctor saw but one bone was broken but I think both are broken. I had Jerry carried to a house, where as good care can be taken of him as if he was at home. I am with him, and will stay with him until he get able to travail or some other arrangements are made. Jerry wants Mr Buck to come and take him home fer about three weeks from this time in a buggy if Jerry is not able to go in the time mentioned he wants Mr Buck to Stay with him until he is able to go home, he is suffering smart pain at present but I hope will soon recover tell Sarah about this and that I am with Jerry and will take the care of him that I can and will write to her in a few days. Jerry and myself are at the house of a gentleman by the name of McClang in Nicholas County three miles north east of Summerville on a turnpike road leading to [Weston?] all the rest of boys fro Washington are well, we have had many hardships to go through, and expect many more but hope to survive them all & some day again to return to old Washington & tell all the folks who wish to write to their freinds in this Company to send their letters by Mr Buck as not one letter yet has come to this Company by mail.
