Dear Brother

According to promise I write you a short letter. I got home safe the day that I left your house. You talked of going to [illegible] to work in the Armory. My advice to you about this is to go and work a while. Uncle [illegible] Hughes started the army yesterday he is going somewhere near [illegible] Va. I have been looking for a letter from Pa since the 1st Monday in this month he promised to do so and let me know what arrangement was made about Uncle H Anderson affairs, tell him to write to me [illegible] has Uncle Thad Fain taken the pistol that I left, if he has not taken it I want you or Pa to sell it to some person else $25 is the price I traded for a pistol a few days ago it is a fine one and I got it very low (Colts [Pal?])

We have much sickness in our neighborhood at present with many deaths, sore throat is the disease. Jerry Sarah & Will are well. Mary & the children are well, little Jim can walk. You must write to me soon I am anxious to hear from you all.

Yours truly W A Hughes
