   RATES OF POSTAGE
 LETTERS not exceeding 1-2 ounce in weight, to any

part of the United States, not over 3000 miles, 3 cents. If over 3000 miles, 10 cents. (California and Oregon, 10 cents.) Letters weighing over 1-2 ounce, and not over 1 ounce, double those rates. Must be prepaid in all cases.

 DROP LETTERS, 1 cent.  May be prepaid or not.
 ADVERTISED LETTERS 1 cent, in addition to the regu-

lar rates.

 VALUABLE LETTERS may be registered by application

at the office of mailing, and the payment of a registration fee of 5 cents.

 TO CANADA and other British North American Prov-

inces, when not over 3000 miles, 10 cents for each 1-2 oz. When over 3000 miles, 15 cents. Prepayment optional.

 TO GREAT BRITAIN or Ireland, 24 cents; but if sent

to or from California or Oregon, 20 cents. Prepayment optional.

 LETTERS to other FOREIGN COUNTRIES vary in rate

according to the route by which they are sent, and the proper information can be obtained of any Postmaster in the United States.

 NEWSPAPERS,  Periodicals,  Unsealed  Circulars,  or

other articles of printed matter (except Books), when sent to any part of the United States, and weighing not over 3 ounces, 1 cent, and for every additional ounce, or part thereof, 1 cent. If within the State, and not weigh- ing over 1 1-2 ounces, 1-2 cent.

 WEEKLY NEWSPAPERS (one copy only) sent to actual

Subscribers within the County where printed and pub- lished, free.

 PRINTED BOOKS, bound or unbound, not weighing over

4 lbs., for any distance over 3000 miles, 1 cent per oz.; over 3000 miles, 2 cents per oz. The above must be pre- paid.

 DAGUERREOTYPES will be charged with letter postage

by weight.

 NO PACKAGE will be forwarded (except books) which

weighs over 3 pounds.

Pleasant and sloshy went down
town in the after noon went into
A Wilsons comming and
got one of [Ricks?] pictures he is
going to war I hope he wont [get?]

the eve Mill Reg came home



SUNDAY, MARCH 2, 1862.
[Was a wet and?] sloshy went
church in the forenoon and
in the evening [Awibon?] [?] as
not these so I could not sea or
then diary I am going to
school tomorrow to the Willis

MONDAY 3
I got into the Millis school
and this is the firss day I
have been there went to
[Aforty di A Wilson?] in the eve
some & officers were ther Mr.
Holmes an officer in the [?]
wen home with me.

It rains very hard Annie dist
not go to school I missed her
very much did not see any
any of the soldiers that I knew.

did not know him untill I

I went to the circle in the eve

went to school went over to Mrs

went to church all day
and to sabbath school very
pleasant went to a sabbath

no one went home with me
for father was with me

over to the store and called
to A W. and stayed a few

I was so cross this morning
so father told me that I

in the eve but father went
to class meeting

Stormy went to school went
to the Library in the afternoon
and got a new piece to [speak?]
the name of it is the young
soldiers burial and got a
and got a book from the Library to.

SUNDAY 16
very stormy did not
go to church for all day
[Mcnion C. burne?] or lass night.
I learned my piece I hope
it is not meant for any one
I know read three book
through



MONDAY, MARCH 17, 1862.
Storny in the morn but
plesant in the after noon called
at A. W. coming home and
made a bargain 10 go down
town tomorrow with her
in the cars we shall have fun
TUESDAY 18
went down in the cars
with A W. met M. Dutton he
went to the cars with us
went to M. B. and than went
to Miss C. school and [stoyer?]
was asked to a party but did
not go

WEDNESDAY 19

where in the after noon for
Mothr went to the circl [bu?]
in the eve wen to A W.s they
expected Mr. T would be there

he has gone to war

where in the eve for Mother
went to the B. meeting bought
a comb for mother went
to bed at 2.0 ms. of 11

quite stormy in the after
noon didnot go any
where in the afternoon
but in the eve went over
to E. [Mayr?] was going to stay
all night but did not

SATURDAY 22
[ples?] and went to school went
up to the Library in the after
noon and staid untill
after 7 rehearsing for the
aniversary a boy hit me
in the eye comming home.



SUNDAY, MARCH 23, 1862.
plesant went to church. [al?]
day staid at noon staid to
rehears in the after noon.
got a new piece to sing it
is called the ever green
shore to W.C.M. M.E.B.[H?] Y.E
E. R. are gong to sing with [ne?]

MONDAY 24
went to school went up
to Mrs. Eatons in the eve to
rehears my piece C.W.W.W.
[?] C. L. were there had a splen-
did time H. W. is perfectly
elegant [he was going home with
me but did not?]

TUESDAY 25
Plesant went to school went
up to rehears in the eve saw
A W. had quite a talk on the
corner Willie Higgin was
there but he did not stay
long C. Wiggin is going to
sing with us.



WEDNESDAY, MARCH 26, 1862.
pleasant and horrid walking
went to school didnot go
any where in the after noon for
Mother went over to Mrs. R.
and in the eve I had to write
to Cyrus so I could not go out

THURSDAY 27
pleasan went to a wedding
at 2 oclock. Belle Adie was
married to William Dyer. she
looked lovely went to M. J to
rehearse in the eve had a most
splendid time [talked with H. H.
most all the time?]

FRIDAY 28
quite plesant but windy went
to school did not go
any where for all day A. W.
had company in the eve but
I was not invited some E
officers were there.



SATURDAY, MARCH 29, 1862.
very plesant went to school
called at Miss R. comming
home told her that J would
come down [to?] her house W.
afternoon. went to the vestry
W. W. did not come utill [11?]

Went to church all day father
would not let me go in the
eve staid after church in
the afternoon W. W. did not
stop did not have a good time
got a new ti sing "The Royal.

did not have near us good

me a ring and it was broken and
I dont know whethr he knew it

evening to E. Mayo did not
have a very good time did
not get fooled but once

me to have Will go home with me.?]

to sing to W. W, he was gone all
the eve he had the toothache
so he could not go home wet
out [Liu?] said he was to bed
when she got home last night
