                Phildelphia April 7th 1862

Messrs Thomson Hankey & Co.

         Gentlemen,
I have today yours of the 22nd ult. inclosing

copy of letter of Mr. Daniel Prest. RF&PRRCo. of Dec. 12th 1861. I advised you in previous letters of my having written to Mr. Daniel recom- -mending his remitting you direct the interest on both the Sterling and domestic bonds held in London. It would seem from his letter to you of the 12th of Dec. last, that my letters to him did not reach him and it is probably fortunate for the holding of the domestic bonds that he did not remit the interest due on them, as it seems from his letter to you that they would have been subject to a much heavier loss in Exchange than I had supposed. As this interest must certainly be safe, I would advise your letting it lie until a more favorable period for remitting. The funds referred to in Mr. Daniels letter as being in my hands and out of which he seems to have thought it possible I might have paid the interest on the domestic bonds due in July, and the interest on the sterling bonds due in January, were a draft on the Post Office department for mail service remitted me in May last, just before the interruption of intercourse between the North and South, and which under ordinary circumstances would have been promptly paid, but which was refused by the department. Of this Mr. Daniel was advised at the time but the letter I infer like others written by me failed to reach him. You may rely gentlemen, as soon as I may be able to communicate with Richmond, on my doing anything in my power which may seem to be requisite for the protection of the interests there of yourselves and friends.

                     Yours truly,
                 Moncure Robinson
