to certify that W.N.C. Hinecock(?) Cog. was indeed in detached service in the December of 1864 with Major John Brantin(?), by General R.S. Ewell, then in Command of Richmond & its vicinity, and remained on this duty until the end of the War. While on this service, he was requested by the James City Artillery to become their 1st Lieutenant. that position was being filled at the time, & an appreciation was (prewarned?) & recommended by Gen. Ewell, to the War Department & it would certainly have been favorably acted on, had (not) the war terminated soon after it was receieved by the War Department.
