Richmond Aug 9 1867

Mrs William Jerdone

Dear Madam Your favor duly to hand and contents noted. No memorandum was kept of the bill sent you in March last, so have not means to assertain how we arrived at the amount of fifty six dollars for a bill of Two hundred twenty nine dollars of confederate mony in 1863, but we do not for a moment doubt your correction. We think we must have made an error. The present mode of settling bills of Confederate times is this, Viz, to take the amount of Confederate Money & reduce it to gold at the date of perchase & add the premium of Gold at the time of settlement with interest from Apl 1865. This was the way the last bill sent was made up & the balance is in accordance with the Law passed by the Legislative last Winter - you will please shew the statement to any one who may be familiar with these things and get their opinion & we will abide by it. The only mode of settling which we wish is a fair & satisfactory one to you. Should you have a mode of settling please state it. Very truly & Respy John Blair for Blair & Chamberlayne
