Camp Near Orange C.H. Va February 13th 1864

Capt. Thomas A. Martin

Dear Sir I wrote to you some month ago and havent received an answer yet, will you be kind enough to give me an answer on the reception of this and let me know how you are getting along and give me the general news from your section of the country ++

We havent anything of interest here, everything is perfectly quiet. The weather is very fine indeed if it continues so a great while longer the wheels of military will be put in motion + furloughs stoped, I fear before I get out. Lieut Andrews is now on furlough but had to get an Officer transferred to the Company before he could get off.

We had a short skirmish with the enemy last Sunday the first in which Sgt.(?)May Calvin Grier was severely (?) a number of Co. D mortally and one of Co. C Slightly wounded but the enemy were driven back badly worsted, Our Brigade alone engaged.

All the officers that belongs to the Regiment that are within the walls are present with there commands with one or two exceptions, and I Sincerely hope that you may soon be able to return, [...]

Majority of them have enlisted for the war, This leaves me only tolerable well (I have been suffering for some time with a coald. I am with much respect J.B. Boson
