Hd. Qrs. Battle Brig

Army A. N. V.

Feb 24 1865

I did not have the honor until

a few days ago Miss Powell of receiving the

beautiful and appropriate presents you sent

me in October last. I am proud to receive

such notice from one of the [?] young ladies

of Wincester, and I hope I may prove myself

worthy of such attention. The noble, patriotic

and self sacrificing daughters of the old Mother

State will live long in the memory of the sons

of the [sunny?] South. I have not forgotten

the very pleasant day we spent together last

June. Such moments are never forgotten by a

soldier. I regretted very much that the condi-

tion of my wound and the state of the weather pre-

vented my calling to see you when I was in Amelia

a short time ago.
