Died in Williamsburg Va May 18th 1862 Dr. John M. Galt, Son of the late Dr. Alexan- der Galt.

Dr. Galt was Superintendent & Phy-

sician of the Eastern Lunatic Asylum & he nobly & conscientiously performed the duties attendant therein. It might be said of him as was said of his philanthropic Father, "that [ ] duty was performed with as scrupulous fideli- ty as though the Recording Angel of Heaven's Chancery had ever been by his side.

The Asylum is a noble & enduring monu-

ment to his memory. His zeal in contributing to the comfort of those committed to his care knew no wearying, & knowlege gained by diligent investigation, on this continent, & in Europe was used with perfect success to restore the wandering mind. This great & good man was well known in Europe, & this country for his philanthropic life & li- terary attainments, - literature is en- riched by his learned & elegant writing: Science mourns an irreparable loss, for a bright & shining light has left this world forever!

He was much loved on earth, surely much

loved by his heavenly Father, for the Lord lov- eth a cheerful giver, & his name was but a synonyme for disinterested kindness & generosity giving to all who asked, & never turning away from the poor & needy. In his own home his presence was like perpetual sunshine.

A life of devotion to the good of others has clos-

ed on earth & that fine spirit, that knew no guile, has gone to receive the great reward; promised to all who believe in the Saviour, & follow in his footsteps!
