Dear Dr
I observe that nearly all the timber on your land has
been cut down and is waisting. I have an idle cart & mule
and servant, and if you will permit me to get wood from your
land, it will save me considerable expense. I would not ask
this of you if the wood seemed to be of any value to you, but
hope that you will not deem it an unreasonable request
under present Circumstances. Your permission will
much oblige . [Yrs &c?]
