Forest Hill May 20th 1864
Not many days have passed dearest Sister
since I sent off to you a long long letter I
write now to enclose you Mrs. [Eggleston's?]
letters received a few days since, [?]
ately it was written early in the month
& so brings no new news of our friends since the
late battles. I have ehard nothing from
them, except that the 3rd from its position
did not probably lose heavily. Wickham's
Brigade is now stationed at Darby Town
six miles below Richmond. They have
been in no battles since the day after
the wound of our noble [?]. The news
did not come up this morning, we read
no papers & consequently have many [?]
mons. The most important is that [?]
has fallen back to [Milford?] twenty five
miles from us. I [?] this is not so, I
do not like t osee him falling back [?]
[?]. Yankees are said to be at Old [Ch?]
& in quite large numbers in Caroline.
We hear that at the Junction they have been
indeed to prepare for an attack. If such
is the case, we may yet have the raid
ers upon us. [?] Brigade I hear was [at?]
the Junction if so I hope I shall see Cousin
Edward again. I received a letter from Aunt
[Page 2]
Minnie yesterday she had been to see
Powell. Found him looking very bright
& handsome & she said very comfort-
able having everyting he needed. He
is at the Officer's Hospital on 10th st
between Broad & Marshall & seem-
ed delihted to see Aunt M. He does
not consider his wound very serious. I
hope you will see him before long in Char-
lottesville it seemed very uncomfortable
in Richmond. I am glad to hear that
altho' so many of our [valley?] boys have
been wounded the wounds are so slight.
This is the [7th?] day of this battle or [?] of
battle above us. I pray we may soon
be able [entirely?] to [?] [?] [?]
all think peace will once more beam up
on us.
