Chimborazo Hospital 4th Division

Ward 6 near Richmond

January 15th 1864

Dear Wife

Your very welcome letter of Jan

7th came to hand yesterday and was most

gladly received. I can assure you. I am very

glad to know that you are well and hope

that you may still be so when this reaches

you. I am better now than when I came

here. though I am not fit for duty yet.

I do not know when I shall be able to

get home. I cannot get a furlough. So

tis needless to try for one.

Do not sell the land by any means till

I come home. My time will be up on the

28th of February and I am in hopes that

I shall then get off for good.

do not sell or pawn the cow if you

can possibly do without it. You must

see Mr Wm Kent and get a Barrel of

flour from him on my account.

Remember my respects to Mr Childress.

tell him that I hope to be able to get up

there soon and get that jug of molasses.

My respects to Mr Casey also.

You need not trouble yourself to send

me the half soles. You can keep them til I come.
