Christmas Concert Is Scheduled Here By William And Mary College Choir

Final rehearsals are now un- derway for the annual Christmas concert by the William and Mary Choir and Chorus, which will be presented Monday and Tuesday evenings, at 8p.m. in Blow gymnasium under the direction of Dr. Carl A. Fehr.

Opening with a candle-light procession and the "Gloria In Excelsis" by Jolley, the pro- pgram will continue with the choir singing Bach's Christmas cantata, "For Us a Child Is Born," accompanied by Ellen Anne Hunter.

The Women's Chorus, ac- companied by Elizabeth Evens, will follow with Benjamin Brit- ten's, "A Ceremony of Carols." The program also includes "Carol-Noel," "How Far Is It To Bethleham," "While Shepards Watched Their Flocks," and "Ding, Dong, Merrily on High." The concert will conclude with a candle-light rendition of "Silent Night."

The production is under the technical direction of Albert Haak, Assistant professor of Fine Arts, and Rober Mackey, is in charge of lighting.

Tickets may be obtained at the door or at the information desk in Marshall-Wythe Hall.

William And Mary Choir Commencees Rehearsal For Annual Yletide Show

With Christmas in the air, pre- parations for the choir's annual concert in Blow gymnasium De- cember 10 and 11 are under way.

Strains of The Ceremony of Carols can be heard issuing from the Music Building as the Wo- men's Chorus rehearses, while the choir is lining up to take its place in the bymnasium balcony for the concert's opening candle- light processional.

The musical program will in- clude the Ceremony of the Carols by the Chorus while the choir will present the Christmas songs of different nations as well as the more traditional religious hymns.

Many Nations The tunes of Chechoslavia, Sweden, Norway, Spain, and Mexico will be centered around Bach's cantata No. 142 -- For Us a Child Is Born, and will include such numbers as Carol Noel, A Lowly King is Born, and The Joyous Christmas Song.

Also in the production will be a narration of the Christmas story by David Weston, and a solo "Sweet Little Jesus Boy.

Ending the program will bve a recessional and the tradtional singing of Silent Night. Scen- ery and lighting will be under the direction of Robert Mackey.

The William and Mary Choir and Chorus, under the direction of Dr. Carl A. Fehr, gives two campus concerts at Christmas time and two in the spring, in addition to singing regularly at Wren Chapel services, College convocations and graduations and other special events.
