"Ode to the Virginian Voyage" was written by Randall Thompson for the 1957 250th anniversary of the founding of Jamestown. The William and Mary Choir performed with the Virginia Symphony and their chorus in the maiden performance of this piece in the spring of 1957. This brochure probably was published in 1959 or 1960 because the choir had not toured in New York and Boston before the spring of 1959.
