General Joseph E. Johnston, Richmond, Va.

Dear Sir;

A re-union and association of the First Kentucky Brigade of Infantry, in the late war, will be held on the 5th of Sept. next, at Lexington, Ky., the meeting to last one day only.

I am requested by many, indeed by all the members with whom I have had any com- munication, to invite you, General, to be pres- ent with us on that occasion, and to assure you that the old soldiers of this vicinity will be no one, either from home or from abroad, with more pleasure and pride than their honored and still affectionately remembered Commander of the arduous Dalton-Atlanta campaign. Please answer accepting, if possible. Genl Cheatham we hope to see on the occasion, though we have no answer yet from him.
