to 109 1/2  & Foreign Exchange to 119 1/2  in one day.

Butlers proclamation in reference to the New Orleans Ladies

is denounced in the English parliament by Earl Russell and

Lord Palmerston as being outrageous disgraceful & Infamous

which brought down [cheers][underlined] from the “Houses”

Wind SE. Clear.  Wm & Nick throwing first & James 2nd furrows

to Corn.  Weeding Corn.  I went to Hickory Fork to get

some medecine from Dr Cary for little Lizzy who is quite sick (teething).

Heard there that Jackson with his army had reached Hanover
 +

yesterday morning, attacked & drove back the Enemy ^ and that

severe fighting commenced in Evening along the whole extent
 +
of our lines in front of Richmond. [God grant us success.][underlined]

We staid at home.  Little Lizzy very unwell

Wind SW Clear.  Began Harvest.  James and James Henry ploughing

Maria & I went to Miss Adelaide Swann’s funeral at Warner Hall

She died night before the last.  Heard there of the death of George

Cary of Typhoid fever in Richmond.  He was a fine young

man and is a loss to the Country.  Little Lizzy quite sick.
