Camp Walker near Manassas Augt 30 1861

Brother Gill

As I have just got well enough of the measeals to wash my hands I have had good time of it for the last five days Bennie has had them and some thirty of the boys besides The camp was in a stir last eavening we received orders to to distribute forty rounds of cartriges and cooked rations for three days to march at any hour. I expect it was to go to Fall Church or to move into Mearaland by way way of Leesburgh. There has been very heavy skirmishing at Leesburg and at Fall Church they have had a small battle the whole of General JOhnsons division is on the moves Gill you ought to be here to see fine horses Maj [McIntosh?] has a fine one so has Wm Lamar he has the fines poney horse I ever saw in my life he is about the sise of Bessey she only give one hundred dollars for him gill I want you to go over to my house [?] take a general look around and write [?] all looks espetially the stock and the two hammocks and also if Mr Ably has built his house yet if he has not done so I want him to build it on the opisite side of the road to the one that my house is on, on the hill apisite the stables do take the long jills in the yard for the jills tell him ([?]) to build a house like the one Jack Andrews lives in at Granmary there is loads enough to cover it all ready tell Mr Ables to kill all of them d-n goats if they pester him - the drum is beating at this time for a review of Genl Tooms brigade which is to take place in a half hour - I received a letter from mar the other day in which she said that sister Mollie is very sick I am in hopes that she will be in a day or two

George Turman has been put in the general Guard tent at Manassas (by Capt Cunningham) for fifteen days on bread and water but he will be released in a day or two I think

You must excuse this short letter and bad spelling I have set up so long it has made me quite weak we will all be well in a few day

Give my love to all of the family write soon

Your brother
