I have not said a word about Charley & Minnie and I expect you have been looking all the time to see if there was not something about your dear little children They are both well & Charley commenced writing to you this morning on the other side of this page but he soon got tired and ran off to play I will call him in to finish now Minnie is on the bed sleep she is the busiest little thing you ever saw and is the pet of the house. Charley is Ma's favorite though. I think when I accuse her of it she says " I cant [get?] Minnie to stay with me any" She said the other day "Ma where is Pa" she will not know you when you come home but Charley says he will not forget Pa Oh darling it has been such a long long time since you left it seems more like six years than six months since we were together at our dear home al- ways when I first get home after being up here a feeling of loneliness comes over me and I cannot get interested in things for a day or two darling do you see any chance of peace I feel desperate when I think of this war lasting a year longer. Some think it will last the whole of Lincoln's administration but I cannot be lieve it - if I did I would go mad I cannot live without you my precious the longer we are separated the dearer you are to me I thank God that he has given me such a treasure we did not know before this war how many bles sings He had bestowed on us Let us pray most ear nestly for peace and for your speedy and safe return to our sweet home and to your wife & little ones who love you so dearly and who so anxiously [wait?] for your return much love to Sam and bless you my darling Your loving and devoted Nannie</html>
