December 1862

Monday 1st

Wind NE Cloudy & rained some in mg. Cloudy in Ev.g
Shucked & put away Corn. Got wood to kill Hogs.
I went to the Court House. (Court day.)

Tuesday 2

Wind NW Clear. Killed 31 Hogs.

Wednesday 3

Wind SW Rained nearly all day Cut out & Salted the Hogs.

Thursday 4

Wind NW mg E Ev.g. Clear. Shucked & put away Corn.

A large Yankee Steamer came in the River in m.g.
The barges rowed about the River but did not land here.
or disturb any thing elsewhere that I have heard of
Sent to Mr Kemp the childrens 3 Hogs [?] 90, 93 & 85 lbs

Friday 5

Wind E & NE Rained all day. I went over the River
& got four bushels salt from Ralph Rowe for Nr Curtis
I had just returned when a large Yankee Steamer &
a Tug came in the River. They took all the good Boats
& canoes they could find & destroyed all the indifferent ones.
Tye spent the night just in front of my house but did not land

Saturday 6

Wind NW Clear & cold. Shucked & put away Corn. got Wood
Another large Yankee Steamer came in the River, quite a Fleet
They took Capt Willey’s & Stirling Row’s schooners. Burnt West;s
& Mason’s sloops. Took all the large Canoes & destroyed all the
small ones. They then left with their prizes in Ev.g. Brave doings.
They cut up H West’s 2 Boats.
