Wind E Cloudy & cold. Mr. Brownly came with goods
A Yankee Gun Boat came up the river. Mr Corsey
came from Over York River.
Monday 16
Wind SE Rainy Raw &disagreeable. Mauled & hauled Rails
& made fence. Warner West came from the Army to see his Father
Tuesday 17
Wind SW Alternately clear & cloudy. Got wood & made fence
Maria & the children spent the day at Wilsons Creek.
Wednesday 18
Wind S& SE Cloudy. A Yankee Gun boat up the River. Began to Plough Corn land
hauling out & scattering manure. Joshua Mauling Rails
I went to the Ct house. the Yankee fleet under Comodore
Farrigut made a grand attack on Port Hudson La on the 13th and
were ignominiously defeated. The Mississipi was burnt & all the
vessels more or less crippled.
Thursday 19
Wind NE Cloudy & cold & began to snow about 1 O,clk & snowed
hard all bal of day & night. Ploughing & hauling & scattering manure
till 12 Oclk, then did nothing. A dreadful spell of weather.
The (Crusader) a Yankee steamer up the river to, day what
they come here so often for I can concieve. They dont land here.
