Head Quarters Division
new Fredricksbug Dec 6th/62
I received your note [sunday?]
since dearest Sister & am
truely glad to hear that you
are well; also the baby.
Every thing is quiet & just
as it was when I last
wrote you so far as I know.
It was thought a few days
since that the enemy was
leaving but it turned out
to be a "false alarm."
It snowed all day yester-
day. It was one of the most
disagreeable days I ever
spent. We all had quite a
[2]
"Snow Balling spree" last night
begun by Maj. McLaws. I could
not enjoy it as I have been
quite lame for several days
past so much so as hardly
to be able to walk am better
now & hope to be entirely [cured?]
in the course of a day or two.
I am much obliged to the
Dr for his offer of the shirts
but as I never wear undershirts
will not deprive him of them
unless you think it better
for me to have them. Have
you cut the clothes I [sent?]
to you [?]. I can not make
out from your note whether
you have or not. I received
the overcoat on Thursday just
in time for the bad weather.
Please get Davy two pair of
[3]
socks if you can. He has none.
Any news from Home?
Do you it possible for Mother
to send me some bed clothes?
I lost all I had except two blan-
kets & am consequently very much
in need of some.
I saw Uncle William [Berkeley?]
a day or two ago. He is looking
as well as I ever saw him.
Charley is if anything uglier
than ever. Cousin Edward
was wounded at the battle
of Sharpsburg & taken prisoner:
has not been exchanged.
Please get me three dollars
worth of stamps & sned in your
next letter? Love to all
God Bless you
Your brother
