Wind N and bitter cold. Ice formed last night more
than inch thick Mauling Rails. Raking woods litter.
Saturday 9
Wind NE. Clear and Cold. Getting Wood. Raking and
hauling woods litter to Farm Pens. Some disease is
amongst my sheep. I have lost for Ewes and five
Lambs within the past week
The returns received by the Papers Today indicate the
Election of a large majority of Union men to the convention.
Sunday 10
Wind S Clear & warm. We staid at home.
Monday 11
Wind SE Cloudy. Ploughed Two Ploughs in
breaking up Corn Land. The first day I have
ploughed since long before Christmas. Hauled
out and scattered manure. John Oystering.
Tuesday 12
Wind SW. Cloudy in mg. Clear & warm afterwards.
It rained all last night & the earth is as wet
as ever. Hands could do nothing of any consequence.
Monday 13
Wind S & E Clear. Taking down old fences leveling banks and
putting up fence. I went CH Mail day. Jef Davis
of Missi Elected President & AH Stephens of Georgia Vice
President (by the Convention at Montgomery Ala.) of the Sout[hern?]
Confederacy. R Taylor spent the day & night here
