Monday 17th
Wind NE. Rained hard the latter part of tlast night
and all day To,day. Did nothing but shell some Corn
to send to mill. The Yankees have taken Elizabeth City
Hertford & Edenton North Carolina. Elizabeth City
was burnt by the Confederates before it was taken.
# According to Telegraphic Reports, We have won a great
#
& decisive Victory at Fort Donaldson Tennessee.
It is said that 15,000 Yankees were Killed wounded & Taken,
and Eight Gun Boats disabled & Taken. I feat it is too
good to be true, to its full extent (# Alas just the contrary #)

Tuesday 18th
Wind NW & W. Cloudy. got wood, scattered Manure
Hauled some Pine litters to Sow & Pig Shelters.
Maria went to Wilson’s Creek & spent the day. She says Chas Curtis
arrived there from Manassas just as she left. Sister Ann went home.

Wednesday 19
Wind E. Rained all day. The Earth covered with water
The hands did nothing. Thank God we are all well

Thursday 20
Wind SW. Clear. Hauling Rails & Getting Wood.
Raking Woods litter. Chas Curtis came here To,day
Maria went to Belle Farm. Farley is much better
They sent their Carriage for Kate & Emily. The Baby is still here.
