Know all men by these presents that we Thomas Morton (as principal) of Webster County and State of Virginia and Jesse Cox and (Andrew) Jackson I. Jones both of Nichols County and same State as sureties are held and firmly bound unto the United States of America in the sum of One thousand Dollars for the payment of which we by these presents bind ourselves our heirs, executors and administrators sealed with our seals and dated this 5th day of April A.D. 1862. The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas the above bound Thomas Morton has been and is suspected of disloyalty and treason against the United States now if the said Thomas Morton shall not take up arms against the United States nor give aid and comfort to the enemies thereof, he shall on the contrary demean himself as a law abiding and loyal citizen of the United States for the term of twenty years from this time, then these presents to be void otherwise to remain in full force and effect. Thomas Morton Jesse P. Cox A.I. Jones
