Mecklenburg [County, Va.] 4th August [18]62

Mr. N[athaniel]. V. Watkins

I have received yours and Dr. [Berlys?] letters informing me of Henrys sickness I hope he will not have a severe spell. I think it would be improper for him to attempt to come away untill he gets well enough to travel. If he should have a long and severe spell and it should become necessary for him to come home when he gets in a condition to do so you must

       know

let me ^ and I will make some arrangement to get him home, but I think it would be a bad plan for him to come away unless it is necessary . I feel assured that you & the Dock will do the best you can for him. I was at Mr. Daniels last week his family are all well now. I saw Nansy and your dear little children they were looking well. We have had fine rains lately and the corn crop is looking very well, our wheat crops will not turn out as well as we have

expected the small Tobacco crop is not very promising and no body seems to feel much interest in it notwi[th]standing the high rates at which it has lately been selling. Some crops have sold as high as 15 and $20 average in this neighbourhood. Daniels furlough will be out in a few days but he will try and get another short extension as his Doctors think he has not fully recovered he is now free from desease [disease] and is [...ding?] very rapidly and I think in a short time he will be in a condition to return to his post of duty in good health & spirits. It would afford me the greatest pleasure to see you and the Dock and Sam. I think of you all a great deal and you have my sympathies and my prayers for your health and happiness Yours truly Samuel D Booker

My warmest regards to Dock & Sam
