happiness to hope for in his
life, yet he was your husband
and the circumstances attending his
death must be very sad to you.
With you I am glad he did not
die from the immediate effects
of dissipation & hope he died
in favor with his God. I
believe Richard, often tried to
live a christian life but he
was so weak his purposes
soon were defeated by his dreadf
ful appetite. I too can but
think his case very similar
to Edward in Bitter sweet
You are now situated as you
were before you were married
Let not the bitter experience of
the past two years paralize your
energies but gird yourself for
future duties & the healing
hand of time may bring much
of happiness to you yet.
