Dear E I have received two letters from you
this week, and a book for which receive
my sincere thanks. The weather has been
quite cool the last week but today (Sunday) it's warm
and pleasant The Gurrilars made a rade the other night
on the R.R. about six miles from here, run a train
off the tract burned three cars and robed the pasengers
of some three or four hundred dollars. We were turned
out under arm and went down but a company from
the 123d New York had drove them off and we went
to work clearing the track and laying new ties and
rails [?] where they had burnt, and been torn up.
We got through at day light and came home on
the first train from Chattanooga, which hearing of
the raid had stoped at Deckard 12 miles above.
There is no news from the front of any acount,
and it will probably be some time before they comence
operations; but when they do, I only hope we shall
be victorious, and the Rebelion's crushed and by
another spring I shall be at home with you and
we will enjoy ourselves, fixing up the house and place,
for now I have something to keep me at home when I am
in Lynn. And as for drinking liquor not a drop pases
my lips either at home or in the army. I know that I am
cross and sometimees inconsistent when I have been drinking
but never has my love for you changed for an hour
since we were married, And God only knows how I have
sufferd and how many sleepless nights I have passed
