My dear Lizzie

With such a nice letter
from your Uncle Hoge, & a note from
your loving Mary, it is scarcely worth
while for me to add any thing. But
I want to acknowledge you very wel-
come letter from the university re-
ceived only a few moments ago. I have
not been at home yet to give Bessie
her part. I am really glad to find
you have so many pleasant changes
to your summer [jaunt?], and hope
your month at Heady waters my
improve your health. Camp fare
I should think would either "kill
or cure" dyspepsia. Thanks for all
your kind mention of Jimmie. I
shall certainly give him some lectures
upon "Behavior with young ladies,"
& "Before superiors." He certainly does
not venture upon imprudence in
Mrs. Ewell's presence, if so he has
"sunk to depths I never dreamed of."

[Marginalia]

Mary entertained Capt Page beautifully a few evenings since
was out in
her "swiss"
with all her
winning
ways - & had
a most ap-
proved sup-
per Melons
cake &c.
So look after
any stray
beaux you
may have
left here.
