Thursday 16th
Wind N.E.& E. Clear and pleasant weather, very dry
Taking first furrows from Corn with four Ploughs. Hauling Rails
Repairing fences. Cockling Wheat.

Friday 17
Wind NE. Clear & cold. Ploughing four Ploughs
Raking up the deposit from the tide. Repairing fences.
A large War Steamer came up Mobjack Bay & returned.

Saturday 18
Wind E Clear. Ploughing four Ploughs. Raking
up deposit from Tide. Replanting Corn, I went to
Gloucester point and carried the children. Nothing new.
They are getting along very well with the Battery about
500 troops of all arms are there.

Sunday 19
Wind SE. Cloudy & drizzled rain. We staid at home.
Lt Maury of the Va Navy & Mr Douglass an Engineer here in
M.g. to look at the Bay & River &c with a view of throwing up
earth works. There was heavy cannonading in the direction
of Norfolk this Evening, beginning about 6 O,clock &
continueing till night. It must have been a serious
affair, as they fired very rapadly and I thought I could hear
the rattle of Musketry as well as the booming of Artilery
Maria & the Baby not very well, they have colds.
