Sunday 21st

Wind E & SE in mg Rained till 1,oclk N Ev.g. Clear
We staid at home. Mr Sheldon & Cousin Harriet here
Mr Curtis here in Ev.g He said there was a Battle in
Maryland last Sunday & Monday, we defeated the Yankees
& were driving them. They had already retreated 5 miles
when last heard from. No other particulars know.

Monday 22

Wind N&NE Clear. Took down Shucks of Fodder to dry
Pulled fodder. I went to Mr Clarke’s in Ev.g.
Heard from him unpleasant rumors of Battles in Maryland
but as they came from the Yankees at York Town and through Negroes I put
no faith in them, for they always claim victories event when
terribly defeated indeed the more signal their defeat the greater
victory they claim

Tuesday 23

Wind SE Clear. Pulling & shucking Fodder
I rode to Mr Seldens in m.g. A Vessel came up Ware River
yesterday with goods from the Eastern Shore, but they asked
exorbatant prices from them ..a sack of Ground Allium Salt
was sold by them at Auction and bought by Wyndham Kemp for $29 3/4
Eastern shore made Salt sold at $6 per bushel.
Tea $10 per pound. I wont buy at those prices.
