Saturday 15th

Wind NE Cloudy. Getting Wood. Shucking Corn
Ploughing, One Plough. Three Refugees from Elizabeth
City Mrs Phillips, Miss Watts & Mr Phillips came here just
before day this Morning on their way to Richmond.

Sunday 16

Wind NE Cloudy & cold. We staid at home.
Fayette Sinclair here in m.g.

Monday 17

Wind E Cloudy in mg Clear afterwards
Ploughing Two Ploughs. Shucking & putting away Cron.
The Yankee Cavalry came out yesterday. They took Sam Puller
prisoner at Mrs Harwood’s went to the Ct house broke open the
Stores & took what they wanted & all the letters &c out of the
Post Office. Stole a horse from Mrs Persin, & did various
other things. Mrs Phillips & party were going away but we
heard the Yankees were out, so she could not go.
I went to Wilsons Creek & Boswell Seawells but saw nothing of
any Yankees

Tuesday 18

Wind SE Cloudy. Ploughing three ploughs. Mr Curtis having sent
George & Team to assist me. Shucking Corn. Richard went to school.
Dr Cary here to see Billy who has sore throat. He says the King &
Queen Rangers Killed Two, Wounded Two & Captured three Yankees
Saturday night, near Gloster point.
