November 1861

Friday 22
Wind N & NE. Clear but cloudy at night
Gathering & housing Corn. Building guard
house. I went to White Marsh as one of the
Commissioners to divide the Personal property there
between Mrs Tabb & Dr JP Tabb Exor of his Father.

Saturday 23
Wind NW Cloudy in mg. Rained a good deal last
night. Clear afternoon. Finished gathering and
housing Corn. Got Wood. I went to White
Marsh. We completed the division. There was
very heavy firing last night about 12 O,clock in
the direction of Old Point or Hampton. It con=
=tinued for more than an hour & was very rapid.

Sunday 24
Wind N Clear. Maria & the children went to Church.
I staid at home having a sore throat.
The firing I learn was from New Ports News. A
Confederate Regt was moved up from near there who before they left
built a large number of fires. The Yankees fired nearly 200 Cannon
at them, “Nobody hurt” of course, for there was nobody there
to be hurt
