Capt W B Myers,
A. A. Genl

Capt. The Comdg Genl's note of this morning con-
tining an unmerited reproach of me for having "abandoned"
my sick at Montgomerys Ferry, was fully answered last night.
It is not true that I abandoned[underscored] my sick at that or any other place -
they were in charge of the Med Director & provided for as explained
in my note.

As to the sick at Fayette, they were left by the
Med. Director upon a consultation with the surgeons of the Regts,
because in their opinion ['their opinion' underscored] they could not be brought in the wag-
ons without danger to their lives – four [underscored] having already died
on the way.

I will move my camp to Piney this mor-
ning & send back the 25 wagons, & transportation for the sick
as ordered by the Comdg Genl. I would respectfully sug-
gest however, that we have a very limited supply
of forage – barely enough to carry us through, and thus
detention will exhaust all that we have.

I have the honor to be Sir,
Very Respectfully
Yr obt Svt
John S Williams
Brig Genl Comdg &c
