                  New York, Oct. 20, 1863.

Richard, my dear, & kind friend,

          I thank you for sending

that letter to me, which came from

Logansport, as it was of use to me.

As to when I shall be with you, or

whether I shall ever be, remains in

the future. My matters with the

Bp remains "in statu quo" until such

times as he can receive answers to

certain letters he has written to Il-

linois. I feel sorry for my little flock

in Morris, but the Lord will care for

them if they will but trust in him.

The Lord never forsakes those who

put their trust in him, I hope &

trust that you will always re-

member that the safest spot in

the world is at the cross, "looking

unto Jesus". He is the Author &

Finisher of your faith, & he will

bring you safe home to glory, O,
