Wednesday 14th
Wind NE Cloudy & cool. Planted Turnips.
Hauled out Sea Ore. Harrowed fallowed land.
We had rain lst night for the first time in
a fortneight and Corn &c was suffering very much.
From other engagements and negligena I have
not made may entries for the first part of this
Month. On the Farm I have been Threshing Wheat. Making
enclosures around Barn Yard & Orchard. Cutting
& grubbing bushes. Hauling out & Scattering
Sea Ore. Reploughing fallowed land. White=
=washing Houses & enclosures & doing other little
jobs. Two of my hands have been at Gloster
Point until Saturday. Milly, Wallace & Younger
have been sick. The Guard on my Point are
getting along very well & do good service.
In the War nothing of importance has
transpired since the Battle of Manassas, where we
certainly gained a great victory & if in condition to have
followed it up could have taken Washington, as the
Yankees were utterly panic stricken & demoralized and could
not have made effective resistance
