Sunday 23rd
Wind NW Clear. I was at home alone. Rode to Mr
Sinclairs in m.g. found the old Gentlemen rather better but
very weak. Dr Cary had been to see him.
The Yankees burnt the Hook Store & Ware house last
Thursday night.
Monday 24
Wind NE Clear & cold. Ploughing Two Ploughs
Shucking & putting away Corn.
Maria & the Children returned from Belle Farm.
I went over the River with Fayette Sinclair. I engaged
Six bushels Salt of Ralph Rowe for Mr Curtis & Sister Anne.
Tuesday 25
Wind SW Clear & cloudy alternately. Sowing Wheat
Ploughing Two Ploughs. Shucking Corn.
I went to a sale at White Marsh, bought an
Ox Cart & Tumbrel. The Yankees went to Mathews
in their Gun Boats yesterday & destroyed Salt Works &c there.
A Sack of Ground Allium Salt (The only one there) sold at White Marsh for $(125)
One hundred & Twenty five dollars!
Wednesday 26
Wind SW. Rained nearly all day. Got wood in Ev.g
Old Mr Sinclair is very sick & debilitated
No War News of consequence except the Yankees threated to Shell
Fredricksburg.
